“[The first gathering of conifer enthusiasts] would occur on October 7, 1982. Thirty-two people attended the meeting. It was an informal gathering where we were to decide whether or not there was enough interest to create a conifer society. Enthusiasm was high, and we agreed that two committees would be made to get things started. Somehow, I was to chair the most important committee. We met in December to determine a name for the Society, the bylaws for our operation, and a statement of purpose.”
