Artist and author Molly Hashimoto has appreciated trees all her life—they have shaped her as a hiker, outdoors enthusiast, gardener, traveler, and of course artist. In Trees of the West, she pays homage to 46 of the West’s iconic species through many different media, each revealing different aspects of these stalwart companions: crisp lines, imposing silhouettes, the varied hues of foliage. Each featured species also includes a rich natural history and brief ethnobotanical notes alongside sidebars on art tips and techniques and poems and quotes from well-known writers celebrating our connection to trees.
Dedicated to connecting people with nature through hands-on art experiences, Molly Hashimoto teaches aspiring artists and has led plein air art workshops throughout the West, including at the North Cascades Institute, Yellowstone Forever Institute, and Sitka Center for Art and Ecology. Her previous books include Birds of the West, Colors of the West, and Mount Rainier National Park: An Artist’s Tour. Her nature-inspired work has also appeared on cards and calendars for the past three decades. She lives in Seattle. Learn more at mollyhashimoto.com. A recording of the presentation will be available for later viewing.
